Mercari to Depop: keep your best four photos, move the title into the first line of the description, add five hashtags, and price a little lower, since Depop keeps about 3% plus 45 cents and Mercari keeps 10%. Depop to Mercari: write a keyword title under 80 characters, add up to 12 photos, fill brand, size and condition, and price slightly higher. Both apps suit casual fashion; Mercari also sells everything that is not clothing.
Mercari is a general marketplace where buyers search and buy, often without messaging. Depop is a fashion app built around a scrolling feed, where the cover photo and the first line do the selling. Clothing sells on both, so moving a listing across is worth it, but the listing has to change shape.
The steps below are for a listing that already exists on one of them. For the broader question of where to sell, start with our cross-listing guide.
Mercari vs Depop: What Changes
| Mercari | Depop | |
|---|---|---|
| Photos | Up to 12 | Up to 4 plus a video for most sellers |
| Title | 80 characters | No title field; the first words of the description do that job |
| Description | Up to 1,000 characters | Up to 1,000 characters, plus up to 5 hashtags |
| What sells | Almost anything: clothing, electronics, toys, collectibles, home | Fashion: vintage, streetwear, Y2K, one-offs |
| Selling fee | 10% flat, no processing fee | No selling fee; 3.3% + $0.45 processing |
What You Keep on Each
| Sale price | Mercari payout | Depop payout |
|---|---|---|
| $20 | $18.00 | $18.89 |
| $40 | $36.00 | $38.23 |
| $50 | $45.00 | $47.90 |
The gap is small at low prices and grows with the price. A Boosted Depop sale adds a 12% fee, which puts a $40 Boosted sale below Mercari's payout. Run your own numbers in the Depop and Mercari fee calculators.
How to Cross-List From Mercari to Depop
1. Pick four photos
Most Depop sellers get four photo slots. Use a styled or modeled cover, the back or a detail, the brand and size tag, and the biggest flaw if there is one. A short video of the item worn covers fit better than the photos you had to cut.
2. Turn the title into the first line
Mercari title "Levi's 501 Jeans 32x30 Medium Wash Vintage" becomes the Depop first line "Vintage Levi's 501 jeans, medium wash, 32x30, button fly." Follow it with measurements and flaws.
3. Add five hashtags
Mix the item (#levis501, #vintagejeans) with the style (#90s, #workwear) and one broad tag. Only use tags that fit; our Depop algorithm guide explains why stuffing backfires.
4. Leave non-fashion items on Mercari

How to Cross-List From Depop to Mercari
Write an 80-character title with the brand, item, size and one descriptor ("Brandy Melville Ribbed Tank Top White One Size"), since Mercari search leans on the title. Add the photos Depop made you leave out, up to 12. Fill brand, size and condition in their own fields, and turn Depop hashtags into plain words in the description. Mercari buyers often buy without messaging, so answer the usual questions (measurements, flaws, fit) up front.
Doing It With a Tool
Full disclosure: FLIPSAIL is our product. It can crosslist from Mercari to Depop (and to Poshmark, eBay and other connected marketplaces). It cannot create new Mercari listings yet, so Depop to Mercari is a manual step for now.
When the Mercari copy sells, FLIPSAIL removes the Depop listing automatically. When the Depop copy sells, it flags the Mercari listing for one-click removal, because automatic Mercari delisting is not switched on yet. Sales on both are checked every 30 minutes on paid plans. Crosslisting is on the $30/month plan for all 8 marketplaces (14-day trial, no card); the free plan keeps sale detection running between 2 marketplaces, checking every 4 hours. Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sell the same item on Mercari and Depop?
Yes. Both allow listing items elsewhere. Remove the other copy as soon as one sells; cancelling a sold order hurts your rating on Mercari and costs you the sale on Depop.
Is Depop cheaper than Mercari for sellers?
Slightly, without Boost. Mercari takes a flat 10%; Depop charges US sellers no selling fee, only 3.3% + $0.45 processing. On a $40 sale you keep $36.00 on Mercari and $38.23 on Depop. A Boosted Depop sale adds a 12% fee.
How many photos can you add on Mercari and Depop?
Mercari allows up to 12 photos. Most Depop sellers can add 4 photos plus a video.
