All the big resale marketplaces except Facebook have a vacation mode, but they behave differently. Depop's turns itself off after 7 days, Vinted's lasts up to 90 days, Mercari's up to 30 and eBay's up to 30 with sales paused. On Grailed your listings stay buyable. Orders placed before you switch it on still have to ship.
If you sell on more than one app, you have to turn this on separately in each, and they don't work alike. A setting that fully stops sales on Mercari doesn't stop them on Grailed. The two mistakes that cause trouble are assuming your listings are hidden when they aren't, and forgetting an order placed the day before you left.

Does vacation mode stop orders you already have?
No. On every marketplace above, an order placed before you switch on vacation mode still has to ship on time. Mercari says so directly: anything already sold still ships within 3 business days. On Whatnot, orders from shows still ship too. Before you leave, check your sold page on each marketplace, ship what's there, and only then turn on the setting.
How to turn on vacation mode, marketplace by marketplace
Poshmark
Poshmark's Vacation Hold sets your listings to Not For Sale. Buyers can still see, like and share them, and that makes it the gentlest option, because you keep collecting likes while you're away and can send offers to those people when you return. New listings you add during the hold stay available unless you change them, which catches people out.
Depop
Depop's Vacation Mode pauses purchases for 7 days and then turns off by itself, so if you're gone for two weeks you have to set it again or come home to orders. If your Depop vacation mode seems not to be working, check whether those 7 days have run out.
eBay
eBay's Time Away has two settings. You can keep selling with a longer handling time for up to 15 days, or pause sales for up to 30. Pick the first if you can still ship from where you're going, and the second if you can't.
Mercari
Mercari hides your listings for up to 30 days. Hidden listings can't be bought, and any existing order still has to ship within 3 business days.
Vinted
On Vinted, go to your profile, select Vacation mode and toggle "Hide my items". Vinted's help page says it hides all your listings for up to 90 days and can be switched off at any time. It also says vacation mode doesn't extend paid Bumps, so don't buy a Bump just before going away.
Grailed
Grailed is the odd one. Vacation Mode lasts up to 21 days, but listings stay buyable while it's on, so it works more as a notice to buyers than a way to stop sales. If you can't ship at all, Grailed's standard 7-day shipping window still applies, although a buyer can grant an extension of up to 14 days.
Etsy, Whatnot and Facebook Marketplace

Etsy's Vacation Mode takes listings out of search and checkout. Whatnot hides your listings outside shows. We couldn't find a vacation setting on Facebook Marketplace, so the practical options there are marking items pending, taking them down, or being clear in messages about when you can hand over or ship.
When to use vacation mode over the holidays
If you only want one break, take it around Christmas. In our data from last season, sales from December 18 to 27 ran 56% below early November and came back on December 28. The USPS Ground Advantage cutoff for Christmas 2026 is December 17, so an item sold after that won't arrive in time anyway. Pausing from December 18 to 27 gives up very little, although Depop's 7-day limit means setting it twice, while pausing during the six days from Black Friday gives up the strongest stretch of the season.
Check your dates against the ship windows too. Mercari wants shipment within 3 business days, Vinted within 5, Depop cancels unshipped orders at 10 days and Grailed at 7, or 2 business days for expedited shipping. If you'll be away for less than those windows and can ship the day you return, you may not need vacation mode at all on Depop or Grailed.
If you sell the same item on several marketplaces
Vacation mode doesn't remove a listing on another app, and there isn't one switch that covers them all. FLIPSAIL doesn't have one either: you turn on each marketplace's own setting. Do them all in one sitting and set a reminder for the ones that expire. Depop's 7 days is the one that will end first.
The risk is an item that sells on the one marketplace you forgot, or on Grailed where listings stay live, while you're away and unable to ship or take the other copies down.
